①どのチームを応援していますか？
Which team are you rooting for?
応援するにはroot forを使います。そのほかsupportあるいはcheerがあります。まずsupportは応援より、支援する、援助するといニュアンス。
cheerは声を出して応援するときしか使えないので、root forの方が広く使えます。としてスポーツ以外にも使えます。
皆さん応援しています。I’m rooting for you.
②どの選手があなたの国の出身？
Which athlete is from your country?
日本語の選手は英語では競技によって単語が変わります。まずathleteは広く選手として使う言葉です。野球、テニス、サッカーやバスケならplayer
水泳はswim、サーフィンはsurfer、レスリングはwrestlerのように表現します。
③今、誰が先頭ですか？
Who is in the lead now?
in the leadはマラソン、サーフィン、体操、水泳など。競技中に誰が一番かを伝える時に使います。
競技終了後はWho won? あるいはWho got a gold medal？
④好きな選手は誰ですか？
Who is in the favorite athlete?
好きな選手はfavorite athleteですね。
⑤誰が本命ですか？
Who is in the favorite?
そうです。ここもfavoriteを使います。しかしyour favoriteではなくて
ここではthe favorite yourをtheに変えれば本命という意味になります。
ちなみに、最後にto winをつけて勝という意味合いを強く出すこともできます。Who is in the favorite to win?
⑥この試合で日本に勝ち目がない。
In this match, Japan is the underdog.
underdogは勝ち目がない人やチームです。
Somehow I always root the underdog. How about you?
⑦彼女が活躍するといいね。
I hope she does well.
活躍すると言う言葉も簡単にdo wellで表現できますね。
⑧彼は世界新記録を出したね。
He broke the world record.
breakは壊す以外にも記録などを破るという意味もあります。
⑨彼女は世界記録保持者です。
She holds the world record.
She is the world the record holder.でも大丈夫です。このように日本語を英語で表現するのに何通りの正解があります。
⑩白熱したレースでしたね！
That was an exciting race!
あるいは。The race was exciting. 強調でThe race was so exciting.
The race was very exciting. The race was extreme exciting.でも大丈夫です。
⑪日本は3対1で勝っています。
Japan is winning, 3 to 1.
観戦中は得点を確認したいですね。３対１だったら3 to 1。
